Trade Training Centre

The Peter Hall Trade Training Centre was opened in 2010 by Senator Doug Cameron and was named in recognition of the then Director of Studies, Peter Hall who was instrumental in its creation.  

The TAS and PLC consortium comprised the first independent schools to be funded under the Federal Government’s Trade Training Centres In Schools Program.

Whilst primarily servicing the training needs of the school, the TAS Trade Training Centre has been set up as a community resource.  Located in Canambe St, two blocks east of the main TAS campus, the site is zoned for community use and East Armidale United Football Club and Easts Cricket use the centre’s floodlit oval, Doody Park, as their home ground. The centre provides industry-accredited training in automotive, metals and engineering and agriculture to Certificate III level to school students.

The crux of the development was refurbishment of the old YCW Club premises into a multi-purpose teaching facility and a commercial kitchen for honey production, undertaken by TAS students and sold to the public. An additional 600sq metre workshop space was constructed, featuring three automotive bays, and welding and metal machining areas.

Both the manufacturing arm and the vehicle servicing provide an opportunity for apprentices, trainees and students to take their learning into industrial workshop environments. The TAS Agriculture department also operates a Poll Hereford stud and achieves considerable success both on the Show circuit and through breed sales.
