Drama

Both within and outside the academic curriculum, students at TAS have a wide range of opportunities to shine in drama, music and the creative arts.

The home of Drama at TAS is the Hoskins Centre, a purpose-built teaching facility that incorporates a 240-seat theatre. More broadly, each year the school stages several major productions at the Hoskins Centre as well as a number of in-house concerts and showcases. The productions are open to all students, regardless of whether they study Drama, and give them the rich, unique and thrilling opportunity to explore and excel on the stage, in the music pit, or as part of the production crew. Over the years the diverse range of major school productions have included Oliver!Bye Bye BirdieOnce Upon a MattressWest Side StoryLes MiserablesGreaseJoseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, Sweeney Todd, Rhinoceros and  more. and  Junior School productions such as Shrek Jr, Madagascar and Lion King.

The Hoskins Centre is also Armidale’s main theatre space and plays host to a number of community companies and professional touring productions and performances. We partner with the Armidale Dramatic and Musical Society (ADMS) to host their annual musical and play, and are also partnered with the Armidale Fine Arts Society (ADFAS) for their monthly lectures. Touring productions often come to do workshops or masterclasses as part of their visit to the centre and students are able to access a very diverse range of experiences in the Arts..

Shakespeare Carnival

TAS has participated in the revived NSW Shakespeare Carnival for several years now, with students often invited to Sydney to perform at the Seymour Centre as part of the Finals showcase and some taking home the winning crowns in Drama, Music and Film! In Term 2 we host our own school Shakespeare Carnival and students compete to represent the school in the Regional Carnival that is regularly hosted at TAS. With a range of Drama performance categories, a Dance/Movement category, a Music composition category and a Design category it is an opportunity for students across the Arts to challenge themselves and participate in a statewide celebration of the Arts and Shakespeare

Junior School Drama Club
