Day Student Houses

With day student numbers growing proportionately in the 1970s and ’80s as the school has expanded, the decision was made in 1983 for them to be given their own houses for sporting and co-curricular competition. (Previously, day students belonged to one of the four boarding houses.) The new system came into being in 1983 with the inauguration of Ross and Green houses by His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, during a private visit to the school.
Broughton House (a former boarding house) was added later as the third day house. Inter-house rivalry in sporting competitions, in debating and public speaking and in the creative arts instills day students with a strong sense of identity and purpose.
