Year 11

The final two years of secondary schooling at TAS have a strong focus on, but are not limited to, academic endeavour. TAS has a firm belief that the key to maximising options for our young boys and girls after school is determined more by subject selection and attitude to study and learning, than the pursuit of a particular Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) alone.

By the end of Year 10, some students will know where their lives are heading; others have only a vague idea of what they would like to do after school. For Years 11 and 12, subjects must be chosen to meet the requirements of the Board of Studies for the award of the Higher School Certificate, and of the Universities Admission Centre for eligibility for an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

When choosing a program of study for Years 11 and 12, boys and girls should seek advice concerning post-school options; keep an open mind about these options, and choose subjects which they find interesting. Students are encouraged to seek advice from Heads of Departments, the Careers Advisor, their pastoral care Advisor, the Director of Studies or the Director of Pastoral Care to assist them in making their subject selection. During Year 11 students continue to participate in the broader life of the school, participating at the most senior level across our co-curricular program. Indeed, our most academically successful students are those engaged in many other aspects of school life: in various leadership positions, on the sporting field, in the creative arts and public speaking.

In Year 11, the Activities program is at its most expansive, with students choosing one of three options. In addition to Cadets, students can opt to gain their surf bronze medallion through Surf Life Saving (in conjunction with Sawtell SLSC) or achieve entry-level qualifications as a Bush Firefighter as part of the TAS Rural Fire Service program.

Adventure expeditions including the Kokoda Track, the 111km overnight Hawkesbury Canoe Classic and pursuit of Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards are other avenues of opportunity Year 11 boys are encouraged to pursue.

By Term 4, Year 11 boys and girls take on the full student leadership of the school, having become young men and women of courage, compassion and zeal.
